Perhaps you are wondering what we are doing to the front of the library. We have had a pernicious problem with leakage into the original 1895 granite basement wall. We have tried many corrections from the inside but nothing worked. We have now dug up the foundation to have a water-tight barrier sprayed on the outside of the basement wall. We will also try to improve the drainage system while we have the hole open. Unfortunately the waterproofing must be applied when the foundation is dry, so we are waiting for a string of dry days. We know that the construction area is unsightly, and blocks access for the handicapped as well as anyone who wishes to return books to the book drop. We regret the inconvenience – pray for dry days!
