UPDATE March 27, 2020
Due to Governor Sununu’s executive order to Stay at Home, the last day to request to borrow and pick up library items is Friday, March 27. Contact us to make your requests. We can only fill requests for items that are in the library. We plan to keep pick up area in foyer open until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27.
Library staff is working on new ways to serve the Tamworth community with reading material, information, and programs during this time. Check back at this site for updates. If you’d like to be added to our email newsletter, send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
UPDATE March 23, 2020
We are changing the times for takeout pickups beginning Tuesday, March 24. Items for pickup will be out in the library foyer, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Read below for more about our procedure for cleaning.
UPDATE March 19, 2020
We are changing our procedure for takeout pickups beginning Friday, March 20. Items for pickup will be out in the library foyer, which will be open from 11 am to 1 pm, 3 pm to 5 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday. All items will be cleaned before we pack them up for you. Staff will not bring the items outside to you. Staff will wash hands before and after packing up each person’s set of items and placing them in the foyer. Your items will be clearly marked with your initials and last 6 digits of your library card number. We suggest you wait at least a day before unpacking your items. If you are in self-quarantine or quarantined or sick, please don’t come to the library to pick items up. We trust that our community will take this request seriously.
We will still offer home delivery. Call us at 323-8510 to request this service. Staff or a volunteer will bring items to a designated sheltered spot outside your home at a scheduled time. We will use same cleaning protocol described above and suggest that you wait at least a day before unpacking your items.
And, we’re closing the book return. There are too many variables to this issue despite our best attempts at researching best practices. Please keep what you’ve got checked out until “all clear” is announced. This unfortunately means that any holds you place on items that are currently checked out will not be filled. We have thousands of books, dvds, audiobooks, magazines in our collection. We are happy to choose some for you. Call us to discuss your preferences.
Printing, scanning, copying, faxing: If you have an urgent need for these services, please call to discuss, 323-8510.
UPDATE March 18, 2020
We have decided to hold off closing the book return for now. It seems that as long as we have staff working at the library, we can keep popular items in circulation. We are quarantining returned items for 72 hours, then cleaning all the plastic parts with a 10% bleach solution, and cleaning DVD and compact disks with windex because bleach will ruin them. A study published on March 17, 2020 by the New England Journal of Medicine, Aerosol and Surface Stability of SARS-CoV-2 as Compared with SARS-CoV-1, reports that the virus was detected on plastic for up to 72 hours, and on cardboard (closest material to paper that was tested) for 24 hours.
We’ve had a few requests for printing, copying, faxing, and scanning. As long as you are not sick or potentially exposed to the virus, we can do this for you. We’ll keep the same hours for these services as for curbside delivery: 11-1 and 4-6 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 11-1 on Saturday. Call us first to request this service, 323-8510.
If you have decided to begin using or make more use of NH Downloadable Books during this crisis, we are considering adding the Advantage program. This would allow our library to purchase copies just for our patrons’ use. Downloadable Books are way, way, more expensive than print, so we want to be sure that this would be a good use of library funds. Purchases would be made by request. Please give your feedback so we can make a good decision.
UPDATE March 16, 2020
All currently checked out items will now be due April 30, 2020. Please keep your library items at home until the library reopens. The book return will be closed on March 18.
Wireless internet (wifi) is available outside the library. Password is posted on the entrance door.
Online materials: Your library card provides access to NH Downloadable Books (ebooks, audiobooks, magazines), plus HeritageQuest for genealogy, Encyclopaedia Britannica for facts. Explora provides journal and magazine articles. Your library card number is the 14-digit number on the back of your card under the barcode. Enter all 14 numbers with no spaces.
Tamworth Daily Bulletin: During the COVID-19 pandemic, paper bulletins with local information will be printed and distributed around town on weekdays. These are meant for people who do not use the internet. Find links to printable PDFs of the bulletin in the sidebar (or below if you’re on a mobile device). Print and share with your shut-in neighbors.

UPDATE March 15, 2020
The library building will be closed beginning Monday, March 16 until further notice. Library staff will be offering curbside delivery of library materials beginning Monday. Volunteers will offer home delivery if you are unable to get to the library. Call the library at 323-8510 for more information.
Library Trustees met on Saturday, March 14 at 4:00 p.m. to come up with a plan. See the minutes of the meeting to read the entire plan. Three hours after the meeting, SAU 13 announced it will be closed March 16-27, so the library will be closed, too. As one Trustee said, “When we look back, it would be better to feel we overreacted than we didn’t do enough.”
Previous UPDATE March 13, 2020
As we all navigate the coronavirus outbreak, here is the current plan for library services. Please note that plans may change at short notice.
For updates, see the library’s website, tamworthlibrary.org, or call us at 603-323-8510. Our phone message will be updated so you can get the latest news after hours.
VISITING THE LIBRARY
First of all, do what is best for you and your family.
If you’re sick, please stay home, and please don’t stop at the library on your way home from the doctor.
If staying away from the public space of the library is important to you, please call us to renew what you have checked out. If you have items on hold to be picked up, ask us about home delivery. If you want us to bring library items out to your car, call ahead.
Library staff is being vigilant about cleaning computers, phones, doorknobs, tabletops and counters, restrooms, toys, and more.
We have temporarily removed a number of toys from the children’s room and are regularly cleaning the ones that are left. If you bring children to the library, feel free to ask us to remove playthings that you don’t want your children to play with.
PROGRAMS AT THE LIBRARY
We are postponing the evening presentations for adults that we sponsor. If a partner organization is sponsoring a program at the library, we are working together to make a good decision about cancellation or postponement.
Right now, we have no plans to cancel storytime or baby time.
MEETINGS AT THE LIBRARY
If your group has reserved meeting space at the library, please contact us to verify. If your group has cancelled a meeting to be held at the library, please let us know.
We will send and post updates as often as needed.
We wish you all well.
