Summer STEM Program: Thanks to The Tamworth Foundation and Carroll County 4-H, we will offer a four-session weekly program for kids ages 8 to 12 that will explore wind and water power, hydraulics, and other mechanical concepts in a fun, hands-on way. These will take place on weekday afternoons in July, day of the week to be determined. If you have an 8- to 12-year-old who is interested in participating, contact Mary Cronin. There is room for 12 kids in this program.

UPDATE: we are all set with staffing, but we are taking registrations for kids who want to join the club! See the job descriptions below and contact Mary Cronin with questions or to apply.

We’re also looking for one adult volunteer to participate in training and assist with the program with the hope that the 4-H STEM club will continue in the fall. Contact Mary Cronin if you can help or want more details.

Program details:

In response to parents asking our library for more STEM programming for school-aged children, a Summer STEM program will be offered to kids ages 8 to 12 in partnership with Carroll County 4-H. The program for up to twelve participants will meet outside the library weekly for four weeks and will include three projects that introduce youth to science and engineering skills in a creative, fun way. Using 4-H project kits, youth will explore wind and water power, hydraulics, and other mechanical concepts. Youth will be encouraged to tinker and make modifications by adapting and improving the kit-built project with additional found or recycled materials. The 4-H approach always includes sharing what is learned, so kids will build communication skills as well.
