Cook Memorial Library is open!

Hours: Beginning June 1, 2021, the library hours will return to 40 hours per week, Monday & Friday 10-5, Tuesday & Wednesday 10-8, Saturday 10-4.

Inside the Building: We will follow the public health recommendations issued by the New Hampshire Bureau of Infectious Disease Control on May 17, 2021. This means everyone age 2 and older must wear a mask while inside the library building. Library staff will not monitor nor take into account vaccination status to make individual exceptions. We are happy to see families and children coming into the library again. Let’s work together to keep the children safe and their parents reassured.

There is no longer a limit on the number of people allowed on the main floor of the library other than the maximum occupancy limit determined by the Tamworth Fire Chief. See “Meeting Room” below for limits on the number of people allowed in the meeting room.

We will continue to make disposable masks and hand sanitizer available to the public. Library staff will continue disinfecting frequently touched surfaces (door handles, computer mice and keyboards, copier and fax machine touchpads) throughout the day.

Outside the Building: Bring a mask (or pick one up inside the library) when attending an outdoor library program or spending time in the library’s outdoor spaces. Put your mask on when your activity requires being within 6 feet of people from outside your households.

Services: You may continue to request to borrow library items to pick up in the library’s foyer. All items placed on reserve will be put on the shelves in the foyer when they are ready to pick up. You may also come inside, browse, and select items to check out. We’re taking suggestions for new titles, just let us know what you’d like to read!

Collections: We will discontinue quarantining of library materials beginning June 1, 2021. Items will be checked in and shelved without a holding time. The exception is items that are sent or received using the NH State Library’s van which are quarantined for 72 hours per NH State Library requirements.

Copier/Fax/Printer: We have moved the equipment back to self-serve locations. If you are able to enter the library, we prefer that you do so to make your copies, send faxes, or print documents from a library computer or your own computer. If you need assistance, feel free to ask a library staff member.

Programs: All library programs will be held outdoors this summer or will be presented remotely online. We will evaluate whether to begin indoor programming in the fall closer to that time.

Meeting Room: You may reserve our big downstairs meeting room for a meeting of up to 20 people. We prefer meetings to be scheduled during library hours. Mask wearing is required in our meeting room as it is in our other indoor library spaces. Food may not be served at meetings at this time. The meeting room is equipped with an air sanitizer. To reserve a meeting room, please ask a library staff member.

Book donations: We continue to have limited space for book donations. We will only accept donations of new books (2020 and 2021 publishing date) and children’s books in good condition. We cannot accept textbooks, reference or self-help books, and multi-volume sets. Please do not donate magazines, catalogs, music CDs, VHS or audiocassette tapes, and anything that smells or looks funky and worn out. We ask you to limit your donation to one or two boxes at a time.
