Hi everyone,

On Wednesday we all can learn how to tell a shaggy dog story (no dog required). Also, find (or donate) seeds for home gardens in our Seed Share, plus books to borrow and read.

Here’s what’s happening this week at your library:

Outdoor nature-based storytime, Tues 3/19, 10:30 AM

Baby & toddler time, Tues 3/19, 3:00 PM

Board games for dark evenings, Tues 3/19, 5:00-8:00 PM

Looking at race discussion, Tues 3/19, 6:30 PM

“The Care and Feeding of Your Shaggy Dog,” Wed 3/20, 6:30 PM: Storyteller Andy Davis pilots a new storytelling workshop. A “shaggy dog story” is a meandering, digressive account of a series of events that leads inexorably, gloriously, beautifully to a disappointing anti-climax. It’s narrative for the joy of narrative, and Mark Twain called it a “high and delicate art.”

Storyteller Andy Davis will begin by performing a classic example of the art form and then give a brief glimpse at its beguiling history. Finally, there’ll be an opportunity to experiment with what you’ve learned about calculated digressions and other shaggy dog elements that can also have broader practical applications in life.
