Bruce Bedford was staff photographer for local newspapers for many years. The photos in this collection were taken for the Carroll County Independent, and date from mid-1970s to mid-1990s.

This collection of 35mm negatives and printed contact sheets belongs to Conway Historical Society. The collection was received by Conway Historical Society from Terry Leavitt, who rescued files with Bruce Bedford’s negatives and contact sheets from being discarded when Carroll County Independent’s Ossipee office/printing plant was closed by Salmon Press in 2013. Melanie Streeter and other members of the Tamworth 250th Committee borrowed some of the files from Conway Historical Society in 2016 so that the Tamworth images could be digitized for use in Tamworth 250th Anniversary events and archived at the Cook Memorial Library.

Files shown on this page were digitized by Mary Cronin and Joan Spalding in 2016.

In 2017, the Bruce Bedford collection digitization project was adopted by Keith Simpson of, who is in the process of scanning and posting images from the collection online. He invites community input to identify people, places, and events depicted in the photos. See to view the collection. New items are being added regularly.
