I Survived: Winter Edition, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (rain/snow date January 2): For kids ages 7 to 12. Limited space, sign up at https://forms.gle/YA9uEZqqTSsJu7qJ9. Two local teacher-naturalists will tell stories and lead activities about winter survival focused first on wild animals and then on using fire for warmth and cooking. This event is one of several programs funded by our CLiF Rural Library 2025-2026 grant.
Details:
- 10:00-11:30 AM: Animals don’t go to school, but they sure do learn a lot from their parents. Participants will choose a local, wild animal and make their own book about what those parents teach their babies. Veteran teacher and naturalist Dexter Harding will lead this literary adventure, sprinkled with a dose of story and song.
- 11:30 AM-1:00 PM: Fire has helped humans survive in cold climates for thousands of years. In this program, kids will learn about outdoor fire safety, how to build a campfire, and how to cook food over the fire. We’ll play some fun outdoor games, listen to a story around the fire, and eat our lunch together, complete with roasted hot dogs and other treats. Hillary has worked as a teacher in many different settings, both outdoors and in the classroom, most recently teaching high school Environmental Science. She currently stays at home with her two young naturalists-in-training.
