The Cook Memorial Library will welcome Ken Caldwell, a doctoral-level acupuncturist who will give a presentation on “The Science Behind Acupuncture” on Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the library.
In his talk, Caldwell will explore the science behind acupuncture in accessible, layman’s terms—addressing one of the most common questions patients ask: how can such a thin, sterile needle produce such profound effects in the body? Drawing on his doctoral training and a review of current evidence-based research, Caldwell will walk attendees through the modern biomedical understanding of acupuncture, including what contemporary technology and scientific investigation have revealed about the mechanisms underlying this ancient medical tradition. The presentation bridges classical theory with cutting-edge research, offering community members a new lens through which to appreciate a practice that has endured for thousands of years.
Caldwell is co-founder of Braided River Wellness, an integrative wellness practice in Moultonborough, New Hampshire. He holds a Master of Acupuncture from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) and a Doctorate from MCPHS University, with advanced clinical training at Boston Medical Center’s Pediatric Pain Clinic and UMass Memorial Medical Center. His clinical work blends Japanese and Chinese acupuncture traditions with contemporary biomedical science, with a particular focus on orthopedic and pain conditions.
