August 31, 2026–The Friends of the Cook Memorial Library are proud to announce that they have sponsored two new Little Free Library book-sharing boxes in Tamworth in partnership with the Union Hall Association and the Sokokis Pines Homeowners Association.
One of Tamworth’s new Little Free Libraries is located next to Union Hall on Union Hall Road off of Route 25 in South Tamworth. The other is located on Silver Pine Lane in the Sokokis Pines neighborhood in Tamworth. Both the Union Hall Association and the Sokokis Pines Homewners Association approved the locations for the new libraries. The Friends of Cook Memorial Library funded the Little Free Library structures with additional funding from both stewards. Stewards from both locations installed and will maintain the structures and keep the libraries stocked with books.
Gail Marronne, President of Friends of Cook Memorial Library, says, “It’s our hope that these Little Free Library book-sharing boxes will bring a little more joy, a little more connection and a whole lot more books to our community.”
Founded in 2012, Little Free Library is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that builds community, inspires readers, and expands book access for all. Little Free Library book-sharing boxes are placed in front yards, housing projects, community centers, schools, parks, gardens, and other easily accessible locations. The Libraries are built to withstand weather of all kinds and hold 20-100 books. To be officially called a “Little Free Library,” a free book exchange must be registered with an official charter sign and charter number.
There are now more than 200,000 registered Little Free Library book-sharing boxes worldwide, found in all 50 states, in 128 countries, and across all 7 continents—even Antarctica.
