We have a lot of book group opportunities coming up at the Cook Memorial Library. Books for all three groups can be borrowed today. Our adult book group will meet on Monday, March 24 at 1:00 PM to discuss the classic mystery “Death of a Bookseller.” On Monday, March 31, the Bookworms reading club for kids up to age 9 will met at 4:00 PM to talk about the “Dory Fantasmagory” series, eat pizza, and play games. On Monday, April 14, the Bibliomaniacs reading club for ages 10 and up will talk about “The Night War,” eat pizza, and play games.

“Out of the Dead House,” Wed 3/19, 6:30 PM in person at the library: Storyteller Andy Davis shares tales of the one thing we all have in common, the universal condition of mortality, through folklore, legend and personal story.
“Big Night” crankie performance, Sat 3/22, 11:00 AM: On March 1st, a group of community members came together at the Cook Memorial Library to paint a Big Night & Salamander Crossing Brigade crankie. This Saturday the first performance of the crankie, complete with sound effects (come ready to make frog sounds), will take place at the library.

“Turtles of New Hampshire,” Tuesday, March 25 at 1:00 PM: Join a Squam Lakes Natural Science Center Naturalist to meet several live turtles all native to New Hampshire. We will learn how to tell them apart, where they live, what they eat, and even what they do in winter. For all ages and abilities. This program is sponsored by the grant Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) incollaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).
“The Last of the Granite State Rattlesnakes,” Wednesday, March 26 at 7:00 PM in person at the library. Historian and former newspaper reporter Dan Billin presents vivid, little-known stories and images from our centuries-long war on our rattlesnakes. Billin will review what is and isn’t being done today to conserve our rattlesnakes, and the many obstacles to their survival. This program is sponsored by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities, with additional funding from the Friends of Cook Memorial Library.
